Volunteers Needed

MAL Soccer is run 100% by volunteers: YOUR program depends on YOUR assistance.

Please volunteer as a head or assistant coach. You would need to supply a picture (3rd-8th grades), sign Code of Conduct forms, and take a Rutgers SAFETY Clinic.

  • You also need to take annually the “Heads Up: Concussion in Youth Sports” online training course: https://www.cdc.gov/concussion/HeadsUp/online_training.html/.
  • We partner with the Positive Coaching Alliance whose mission is to transform the culture of youth sports so athletes can have a more positive, character-building experience. PCA workshops are mandatory for all our coaches.
  • Know nothing about soccer? No problem. Soccer is relatively easy to learn and the primary qualification needed (especially at the younger levels) is a desire to work with children. We also hold coaching clinics (first one is July 25). Please don’t be shy — coaching is very rewarding.
  • We need a volunteer for Registrar. This role includes entering player/team/coach info onto the website, enforcing team balance, and creating player passes.
  • We also need a volunteer for Uniform Coordinator. The role involves preparing each team’s uniform needs.
  • Please indicate where you can volunteer via the drop-down menu when you register your child.

Rutgers SAFETY Clinic (“Sports Awareness For Educating Today’s Youth”)

  • NJ requires volunteer coaches to attend a “safety orientation and training skills program” in order to be eligible for civil immunity protection provided by the “Little League Law.” Taking the Rutgers SAFETY Clinic fulfills this requirement.
  • Topics include:
    1. Legal & Medical Aspects of Coaching
    2. Psychological Aspects of Coaching
    3. General Coaching Concepts;
    4. Training & Conditioning Athletes.
  • Attendees receive a certification card, which has to be presented to the MAL. The certification does not expire and can be used for all MAL sports.
